FAQ for the Great Cloth Diaper Change

We are so close to the big day! The following is a list of FAQ for our event;

Q: What exactly is the Great Cloth Diaper Change (GCDC)?
A: The GCDC is a fun, global, cloth diaper party where cloth diapering families and those interested in learning about cloth, gather to change their babies into 100% reusable cloth diapers and share support and knowledge within their communities. It is also an annual fundraiser for the Real Diaper Association (RDA), a non-profit volunteer led group which strives to support and educate cloth diapering families.

Q: Is this the first year for the Great Cloth Diaper Change?
A: No, this is the 7th year that the RDA has organized the GCDC.

Q: Are we trying to set a world record for the GCDC?
A: In the past, we have sought certification of our attendance records through Guinness World Records (GWR). We set the current (GWR) record for "most babies changed into diapers at one time around the world" on April 26, 2014 with 8,459 official participant pairs. We discontinued our working relationship with GWR in 2015 after their regulations for evidence reporting changed in such a manner that we could not guarantee the privacy of our infant participants. We still count all all participants and would love to surpass the current world record!

Q: What is the day and time for this event?
A: Our event in Boise is on Saturday, April 22 from 10am until noon. The official GCDC begins at 10:30 am and should be done around 11:15 am.

Q: Does it cost anything to participate in the GCDC?
A: No. Although the GCDC is also an annual fundraiser for the RDA, there is no fee. There will be raffle tickets  and other items for sale that are optional.

Q: Do I need to sign up or register ahead of time?
A: No. Free registration can be done online in advance via Eventbrite or at the event, starting a 10am. It will save time if you are registered in advance, but it is not required.

Q: What type of diaper can be used?
A: Any 100% reusable cloth diaper. In addition to commercially made diapers, we now accept diapers made by WAHM's, upcycled diapers, and sewn at home cloth diapers.

Q: Can cloth trainers be used?
A: Yes! We are now permitting trainers, as long as they are 100% reusable cloth trainers.

Q: Does my child have to arrive in a cloth diaper/trainer?
A: No. At the beginning of the GCDC, the child can be in a disposable or cloth diaper/trainer. The child must be changed into a 100% reusable cloth diaper at the official time.

Q: If I have twins or multiples, can one person change two babies?
A: No, there must be exactly one participant paired with each child. We recommend bringing extra help so that we can include all possible babies in the change.

Q: Can someone younger than 18 years old be the diaper changer?
A: Yes! We permit anyone who is capable of completely changing a diaper/trainer without assistance. Examples might be older siblings or caregivers.

Q: Is there a time limit that the diaper change needs to happen in?
A: No. The change must start at a specific time, but the change is not a race. We want the event to be enjoyable.
